The Camu Camu fruit (Myrciaria dubia) is a small round fruit, original from the Amazon rainforest as the tree grows on the banks of the Ucayali River in Peru, in the region of Yarinacocha, Pucallpa.
This exotic plant is one of the most emblematic crops of the region having its own local celebration on October 16th “Camu Camu Day”.

When the Camu Camu fruit is ripe it begins to fall into the river. This is where the name Camu comes from, because the natives say that it is the noise that the fish make when they want to eat this fruit when it is on the surface of the water.
The local communities harvest the fruit manually in the period between December and March. The fruit is collected in canoes, directly from the tree.
